Heh, their geeking out here definitely deserves a "NERD!" yell. I tried to stay with relatively recognizable characters, though E and R got by far the most recognizable (it was just too perfect to pass up). Combeferre is Mr. Fantastic from the Fantastic Four, the super-scientist leader of that group; Courfeyrac is having far too much being Dr. Doom, the FF's iconic villain. Feuilly is one of the best Superman-clones out there, a child (originally from the Depression, selling newspapers to eat) given a magic word that allows him to transform himself into an adult superhero and protect the world. The others are a bit harder to recognize (though I did try not to go super-obscure, there is no Hellcat or Son of Satan in here)--Bossuet and Jehan are mutants from the X-men/Avengers; Joly gets to be Marvel's Master of the Mystic Arts; Bahorel is being Jack Kirby's god of war, basically the son of the embodiment of evil who decides he wants to be a good guy but also really likes punching things... *ahem* Right. I could chatter about comics forever, but I think I'll try to stop myself there.
Superman is an absolutely fascinating character, both when written well and just in terms of the history of comics, and it was far too appropriate for Enjolras to be Superman. But yes, there is always Super Dickery. Oh, the Silver Age, you were a very strange time in comics. Nicer than the Nineties, though.
