Enjolras and torture is a fascinating thing to write and consider. He's never going to do things normally, that's for sure. Especially if there's something else for him to focus on, he's going to very much be of the "can we get on to more useful things now? I will gladly talk to you, just not about what you're trying to get me to talk about" persuasion.
And I'm glad between my little synopses and what I worked into the story a quick trip to Wikipedia wasn't needed. Since I'm pretty sure the overlap for these two fandoms is probably me and C-chan, but it's just delightful to imagine the Amis as Romulans. They're already intense people, so throwing in the INTENSITY UP TO ELEVEN that Romulans and Vulcans have (and telepathy... bad idea, giving me a chance to play with telepathy) was just too good to pass up.
(One of the things that I actually really like about the new Trek movies is that Zachary Quinto does a very good job showing how frightening and dangerous a Vulcan can be if he loses control, and going for "logic" to "throttle you" in about two seconds. Vulcans can bend steel and break your head like an egg in a fit of rage; they can rip secrets from your mind with a touch. Do you *really* want him to stop being logical? Really? And Romulans corral the same emotions and abilities via a culture that instills a deep respect for honor, cunning, and devotion. /fangirling fictional species)
