When I told my boss that the concert I'm going to see in a few weeks is by a Broadway singer, his immediate response was, "Someone who's played in Les Mis?"

...I am apparently not as good as keeping the level of my geekiness and obsession as hidden as I thought. I mean, I never try to hide my general geekiness--that would be impossible and pointless--but I do generally try to keep my Obsessive Fanfic Writing Love under wraps. And I have geeked on other musicals to the guys--Wicked and Lion King, mainly, but a handful of others too.

It was probably them seeing my improvised tricolor in December that did me in. But I had to go from work to the theatre! In a blizzard! I needed to get appropriately dressed before putting on six thousand layers to attempt to survive the drive.

People who know me would have no such luck. I geek about musical theatre in general, and then have a few dozen shows that I obsess over in detail. (Don't get me started on what they did to Prima Donna in the 2004 Phantom movie....)

You're going to see Jason Forbach I'm guessing? Have fun!!

Ah, the Phantom movie. I haven't seen it since it came out, which was actually before I managed to see Phantom on stage. I imagine it would be much more painful now.

Cat and I are indeed going to see Jason Forbach. It's only ~4 hours from our place, so we decided to go for it. It should be great fun! If you have anything you want autographed/want us to pick up a CD for you/etc., we should be able to do it.

Yeah... Phantom movie.... there's a bunch of things that makes me headdesk. Of course, there's also the fact that there's a ...Swedish? man working in France being played by a certain Iranian-born Canadian who has spent a good portion of his career working on the West End.... (read: Ramin Karimloo as Christine's father) *dork*

...is this where I grin and point out that ~4 hours is also how far away I am? XD ~~Okay, maybe ~5.~~ *shot*

That is incredibly tempting an offer! ...I'm not sure how payment would work, though....

...Perhaps I should rewatch the "Phantom" movie and see what older-and-wiser me thinks of these things.

If you're interested in his CD or his single I can pick it up for you and then we can either mail things to each other or exchange them if/when we meet in person (if you guys are going to Youmacon or if we come see Les Mis with you assuming you would be interested in our company or if we go to Anime North next year or some such). Also, I am quite happy to buy copies of the man's CD as gifts for people because I love his voice and he's a pretty awesome guy, so don't let money be an issue.

Edit: I just figured out you probably mean how Canadian money=/=American money, which is... a valid point. If you are interested in a CD, it is yours as a late birthday or early Summer Solstice gift.

Of course I'd be interested in your company. :) And I'm hoping to go to Youma! The only thing that may be in my way is whether or not I can afford the time. (The fun thing about currently being jobless: I can't plan ahead.) Exchange in person or through a mutual third party may be best, unless you particularly want to do international mailing. Something about international costs.... ugh (while certainly not prohibitive, they are nice to avoid).

Actually the money is not so much an issue as the transfer of it. (I actually have a stash of American funds in my room -- enough that I probably/hopefully won't have to exchange much in the way assuming Youma ends up being a go.) Though if you'd like it to be a gift then that works as well, I suppose. *ducks and hiiiides*

So I'm in the airport waiting to go to Cincinnati for my grandmother's 80th birthday, and the first thing anyone asked me when I said that I was going out of town for the weekend was: "To see Les Mis again?"

Heh, sometimes we're more transparent than we think. At least you were able to say "no" when they asked! Though you can really never see Les Mis enough times.

Hah. :) I remember back in 07 they stopped asking me at work for why I wasn't around weekends -- I was always in NYC and they all knew it.

I still need to go to NYC someday. I desperately want to see something on Broadway. Plus all the other cool things about the city. Maybe in a year or so...

I actually have infinitely more embarrassing hobbies I'm surprised they haven't cottoned on to yet. The other fandom that I'm actually semi-active in (...as active as I ever am) is tokusatsu, aka that Japanese genre containing the shows that got bastardized into Power Rangers. My screensavers and wallpapers, aside from containing lots of pictures of nineteenth century police inspectors looking grim and people dying on barricades and a handful of very pretty E/R pics, also has men in rubber suits styled after bugs killing other men in rubber suits and/or setting the world on fire.

My coworkers also know that I go to anime conventions. My bosses go to steampunk conventions, though (which I really need to go to). So I suppose them teasing me about the general Les Mis thing is probably pretty low on the list of potential targets. But literally everyone in the office knows it.
